The five core numbers

Numerology reduces dates and the letters of a name to single digits (keeping the master numbers 11, 22 and 33). The Life Path number comes from your full birth date and describes your core direction. The Destiny (Expression) number comes from every letter of your name, the Soul Urge number from the vowels, and the Personality number from the consonants. The Birthday number is simply the day you were born, reduced.

We use the Pythagorean method, where A to I are 1 to 9, J to R are 1 to 9 and S to Z are 1 to 8. If you use a different spelling of your name, you will get different name numbers; numerologists differ on whether to use the birth name or the name you are known by.

How do I find my life path number?

Add up all the digits of your birth date and keep adding until you reach a single digit, unless you land on 11, 22 or 33. For 12 March 1996 that is 1+2+3+1+9+9+6 = 31, then 3+1 = 4.

Is numerology the same as Vedic astrology?

No. Vedic astrology uses planetary positions at birth. Numerology uses numbers drawn from your date of birth and name. Many people enjoy reading both, but they are separate systems.

Which name should I use?

Most numerologists use the full name on the birth certificate for the Destiny, Soul Urge and Personality numbers. You can also try the name you are known by to see how it reads.

Is numerology scientific?

No. It is a traditional reflective practice, not a science, and nothing here predicts your future. Use it for fun and self-reflection.
