What is Sade Sati?
Sade Sati means "seven and a half". It is the stretch when Saturn passes through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign, and the sign after it, about two and a half years in each. It comes around roughly every 29 to 30 years, so most people live through two or three in a lifetime.
The first phase (rising) is when Saturn is in the 12th sign from your Moon, the second (peak) when it is over your Moon sign, and the third (setting) when it is in the 2nd sign from your Moon.
Not as frightening as its reputation
Sade Sati is often feared, but tradition itself says it depends on your whole chart. Saturn rewards patience and steady work, and many people build careers, discipline and maturity during these years. Common experiences are heavier responsibility, a slower pace, and pressure to clean up what has been avoided. Practical steps such as regular routines, savings, keeping promises and helping others are the traditional advice, and cost nothing.
We also show Shani Dhaiya (Saturn in the 4th or 8th sign from your Moon), the shorter two-and-a-half-year periods that are sometimes called the small Sade Sati.
